history
The first mention comes from the year 1309: In that year Gertrud von Keßlingen bequeathed the place to the Mettlach Abbey .
The village church from 1779 with a rectangular choir from the 15th century is well worth seeing . The altar rests on a Roman inscription stone.
- The inscription:
- P (UBLIO) • SINCOR (IO)
- DUBITATO ET MEMO (=)
- RIALIAE SACRILLAE
- PARENTIB (US) DEFUNCT (IS)
- DUBITATI
- MENSOR ET MORA (=)
- TUS ET SIBI VIVI
Translation: For Publius Sincorius Dubitatus and Memo (=) rialia Sacrilla, (the / our) deceased parents, (have) the two Dubitatus' (i.e. the sons who both have the surname 'Dubitatus' after their father), Mensor and Moratus , and for yourself (already) during your lifetime (the tombstone / monument set) (i.e. the sons of the deceased parents planned to be buried in the same place once.)
The patron saint of the Church is St. James. In 1979 Gothic frescoes depicting the symbols of the evangelists were uncovered in the choir. Together with the neighboring village of Oberleuken, Keßlingen forms the parish of St. Gangolf.
As part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Keßlingen was assigned to the new municipality of Perl on January 1, 1974, together with 13 other municipalities .
