The Ketteler College in Mainz is a day college and evening grammar school in Mainz . It was founded in 1951 and is supported by the diocese of Mainz . The Ketteler-Kolleg is named after the Mainz bishop, German politician and founder of the Catholic workers' movement Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler .

history

The evening high school was founded in 1951 by Ernst Plum . His intention was to give people who could not get a high school diploma in World War II the opportunity to do so. Initially, this was intended for people who had chosen the priesthood. But soon the purpose of the school was expanded. Now it was called Abitur for all career goals, all denominations and both genders.

1961-66 new rooms were designed by the architect Hans-Joachim Lenz .

In 1964 , the Ketteler College joined the evening grammar school. The economic miracle increasingly demanded well-trained workers, and the population's interest in social advancement (especially through education) had risen sharply. In addition, the one-day college offered a greater variety of subjects and gave students the freedom from professional activity. This probably led to the fact that the focus of registrations shifted from the evening grammar school to the day college. In 1972 the evening grammar school was closed.

Since 1996 there have been classes in the evening grammar school again.

With the beginning of the school year 2007 / 2008 the Ketteler College and -Abendgymnasium started the school experiment High School online . Here, people who cannot attend classes every day are given the opportunity to obtain their Abitur on a second educational path. The Ketteler-Kolleg is the first and currently the only school in Rhineland-Palatinate to offer the online Abitur.
