Khurshid Ahmad

Khurshid Ahmad (born March 23, 1932 in Delhi ), also Khurshid Ahmed a . a., is a Pakistani , internationally and in the United Kingdom (UK) particularly in the British Muslim Forum ( BMF ) active Muslim missionary and political activist and economist. Ahmad is cited as the father of modern Islamic economics and Islamic capitalism and is considered one of the most influential thinkers in the field of Islamic economics .

biography

With the partition of India in 1947, he and his family moved to Pakistan. In the 1950s he earned a BA in Economics from Government College University in Lahore , an MA in Economics, and an LL.B. at the University of Karachi , then in 1964 an MA in Islamic Studies ("Islamic studies") from the University of Karachi. He conducted research at the University of Leicester (England), where he received his doctorate in economics in 1968. He is the author and editor of numerous papers. He is particularly dedicated to questions of upbringing. His mother tongue is Urdu , he writes in Urdu and in English. He is editor of the influential Tarjuman al-Quran ("Interpreter of the Koran "), a monthly publication that was founded by Abu Ala Maududi in May 1933. He translated his book Towards Understanding Islam into English . In 1956 he joined the Pakistani party Jamaat-i Islami (JI) founded by Maududi . He is their vice-president. He was political advisor in the administration under Zia-ul-Haq , where he headed the Planning Commission and focused on the role of the Islamization of the national economy in the 1980s.

Khurshid Ahmad is co-founder of the Islamic Foundation in Leicester . The college affiliated to the Islamic Foundation is under his direction. He was one of the founders of the International Islamic University (IIUI) in Islamabad and is the founder and chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies , Islamabad. He is one of the Senior Fellows of the Aal-al-Bayt Royal Institute for Islamic Thought in Amman , Jordan . He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).

In 1990 he received the International King Faisal Prize (KFIP) in the category of Services to Islam .

The author Adil Hussain Khan points out that Salem Azzam worked with him in one of the publications of the Islamic Council of Europe , "to produce literature that would appeal to European Muslims from both Arab and South Asian backgrounds [...], effectively broadening their respective audiences beyond the scope of their own Islamist platforms. "
