The nature reserve gravel and sand pit of Dudenhofen (NSG identification 1438024) is located in the Hessian district of Offenbach . It covers around 17.32 hectares of forest and meadow, which is located in the urban area of Dudenhofen .
Area description
The nature reserve is located south-east of Dudenhofen ( Rodgau ) in the middle of the forest not far from the Rodgau sand-lime brick works. The NSG is reached via paved aisles, which can only be seen from one observation point. The occurrence of the bog frog and agile frog is particularly significant. However, the problem is that the water depths of the spawning waters fluctuate extremely and thus there is a major impairment of the amphibian populations. The rare pill fern ( Pilularia globulifera ) and sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ) also suffer from this change and have now become quite rare. The various ground lichens and the marsh bear moss ( Lycopodiella inundata ) are also of particular importance .
Protection purpose
The protection goal is the preservation and expansion of extensive shallow waters. It is the habitat of the moor frog and is home to a great diversity of species. A selection is the Little Grebe, Little Ringed Plover, Great Egret, Gray Heron, Canada Goose. There is an observatory for those interested. It was created through sand and gravel mining. The aim is to maintain or restore extensive shallow waters.
