The nature reserve Mayengewann von Lämmerspiel (NSG identification 1438009) is located in the Hessian district of Offenbach . It comprises around 6.69 hectares of forest and meadow, which is located in the urban area of Lämmerspiel .

Area description

The nature reserve is located on the eastern edge of the Mühlheim district of Lämmerspiel . Species-rich oak forest and adjacent meadows with alternating moisture characterize the NSG Mayengewann by Lammerspiel. It bears the FFH designation 5819-301 Mayengewann von Lämmerspiel (FFH area) and is under special protection as a Natura 2000 area.

Protection purpose

The purpose of the NSG designation is to protect the area with its rare plant species from interference. The aim of the protection is to preserve the species-rich oak forest with the surrounding grassland areas, which clearly stand out from the other cultivated areas. The main protective purpose of the extensively used meadows is their importance as a habitat for a large number of rare and endangered animal and plant species.

Flora and fauna

The orchid meadow there with its populations of small orchids ( Orchis morio ) and broad-leaved orchid ( Dactylorhiza majalis ) is a central feature. Other notable plant species are the ditch violet ( Viola stagnina ), moon rue ( Botrychium lunaria ), water ragwort ( Senecio aquaticus ) and the adder tongue ( Ophioglossum vulgatum ) , which are very rare in Germany . This ancient fern is a specialty in the NSG.
