Kim won two gold and two silver medals at the Short Track Junior World Championships in Warsaw in 2013 . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she reached the A-final round at a distance of over 1500 m, but received a penalty and ended up in 13th place in the final ranking. With the relay, she won the gold medal. At the 2014 World Cup in Montreal , she won the silver medal in the 1500 m. She made her debut in the World Cup at the beginning of the 2013/14 season in Shanghai . She took second place over 1000 m and 1500 m. With the relay over 3000 m she won her first World Cup victory. In the further course of the season she reached seven podiums including three wins. She finished the season in the World Cup over 1000 m and in the World Cup over 1500 m in second place. In the following season she came on the podium eight times in the World Cup, including three times in first place and thus achieved eighth place in the World Cup over 1500 m and sixth place in the World Cup over 1000 m. At the Winter Universiade 2015 in Granada , she won the silver medal with the relay and the gold medal over 1000 m and 1500 m. In March 2015, she won bronze over 3000 m and gold with the relay over 3000 m at the World Championships in Moscow .
In the 2015/16 season, Kim won the World Cup four times with the relay. In addition, she achieved three times over 1500 m and third place over 1000 m and finally reached fifth place in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the season highlight of the 2016 World Championships in Seoul , she won the gold medal with the relay. The following year she won the bronze medal over 500 m, the silver medal over 1500 m and the gold medal with the relay at the Winter Universiade in Almaty . In the 2017/18 season she finished sixth in the World Cup over 1500 m with four top ten placements in the individual World Cup. With the relay she triumphed in Budapest and came second in Dordrecht and third in Seoul. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she won the gold medal with the relay. In March 2018 she won the bronze medal in the 3000 m and the gold medal with the relay at the World Championships in Montreal . At the Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk , she won gold medals in the 1000 m and 1500 m respectively.
In the 2019/20 season, Kim won the World Cup in Nagoya with the mixed relay and in Shanghai over 1500 m. In addition, she came in third place with the mixed relay and second place with the relay in Salt Lake City and thus achieved seventh place in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the Four Continents Championships in Montreal in 2020 , she won the bronze medal over 1000 m and the gold medal with the relay.
