Children are responsible for their parents is a French ensemble film directed by Pascal Thomas from 2001.
action
It is Wednesday and the primary school children in Nantes have no school. After several months Victoria sees her father Martin again; her parents separated because Martin couldn't keep his hands off poker and horse racing. Now father and daughter spend the day together.
Other parents and their children also play a role: the daughter of teacher Agenore Esposito secretly spends Wednesday with the children Colette, Bruno and Henri, where they go on a boat tour and at the end of the day are picked up by the police and taken back to their parents. Little Marylin, who is friends with Victoria, spends the day with her mother Antonella Lorca. Both meet Victoria and Martin twice that day, but the beautiful Antonella Martin behaves erratically. It turns out that she is a drug addict. In her apartment she has withdrawal symptoms and sends Marilyn to buy her drugs. Later she puts down a golden shot ; Marilyn is given care by the police. Vitalie Rambaud, on the other hand, has different worries than her five children, who are busy even without her, as her sister Marie-Thérèse stole things in the supermarket again and is therefore in a cell in the police station. Vitalie succeeds in convincing the supermarket owner not to advertise. In her absence, Vitalie's children found little Augustin orphaned and took them home with them. Meanwhile, Augustine's parents are desperately looking for their child, who has run away. Only at a children's fashion show, in which Vitalie's children and Augustin also take part, do the police discover Augustin and bring the family members back together at the police station. Its head, Denis Pelloutier, said goodbye to his heavily pregnant wife Marie, captain of the marine infantry, on a business trip in the morning and learned in the evening that she had given birth to a baby boy on the train on the return journey.
Victoria and Martin begin their day together by saying goodbye to Victoria's mother Francesca at the train station. Here they both meet Denis Pelloutier, who has just said goodbye to his wife. Denis loses his wallet with his credit cards; Martin takes them to bring them to him during the day. He and Victoria want to have breakfast at Martin's, but Martin is thrown out of their shared apartment by his new girlfriend: She has found out that he is cheating on her. Martin makes a detour to work where he struggles, to a customer who cannot pay, and finally to the court in which Martin is sued by his first wife for years of neglecting child support. Because Victoria is at his side, the lawyer Martins can arrange for the trial date to be rescheduled. Martin takes Victoria with him to horse betting, in which he first loses money, but then wins a lot of money because Victoria puts his money on a different horse than she should. With the money, Martin can pay off his debts and redeem his relocated car. At the end of the day, Martin Denis brings his credit cards back. He plays soccer with Victoria before, after a long search, they both spend the night at Martin's poker friends. Martin is sure that he is a bad father, but the next morning Victoria tells her mother about a wonderful time together. Martin promises to pick her up twice a week, even if Francesca suspects that he won't keep the promise.
