Kipkoech Cheruiyot

Kipkoech Cheruiyot (born December 2, 1964 ) is a former Kenyan middle -distance runner who had his greatest successes in the 1,500 meter distance .

In 1982 he won gold at the African Athletics Championships in Cairo , beating Saïd Aouita . The following year, on July 26th in Munich , he set a junior world record with 3: 34.92 minutes, which was only improved twelve years later by Daniel Komen .

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 and at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he was eliminated in the preliminary run. In 1987 he finished eleventh at the World Championships in Rome , in 1988 seventh at the Olympic Games in Seoul , and in 1989 he won gold at the Universiade .

His twin brother Charles Cheruiyot was successful as a long-distance runner.
