The . Church of the Holy Great Martyr Procopius ( Serbian : Црква Светог великомученика Прокопија, Crkva Svetog velikomučenika Prokopija) in the Opština (municipality) Bijeljina belonging village Obarska Bukovica is a Serbian Orthodox branch church in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The church, built between 2006 and 2010, is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Prokopios . It is the branch church of the Ljeljenča parish in the Bijeljina deanery of the Zvornik - Tuzla eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

location

The Church of the Great Martyr Prokopios is located in the center of the village of Obarska Bukovica, right next to the main road Bijeljina- Brčko . Obarska Bukovica is located on the Semberija plain , about eight kilometers northwest of the municipal capital Bijeljina. The river Ljeljenačka Dašnica flows through Obarska Bukovica.

The municipality of Bijeljina is located in the Republika Srpska , one of the two entities in the country with a predominantly Serbian population.

In addition to the branch church of St. Great Martyr Prokopios, the parish of Ljeljenča also has a parish church . The Trinity Church in Ljeljenča was built between 2000 and 2008 and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity .

The parish of Ljeljenča was founded in 1999, and the parish registers have also been kept since 1999. The Ljeljenča parish includes the villages of Ljeljenča, Čađavica Srednja, Obarska Bukovica and Brijesnica.

Ktitors (donors) of the church are: Miloš Šubarić from the village of Velika Obarska who provided the building land for the church, the godfather of the church is Petar Trifković from Bijeljina, the godfather of the iconostasis is Stana Kojić from the village of Brodac , godfather of the church foundations Bogoljub Ostojić from Obarska Bukovica, godparents of the church crosses are Cvijetin Abadžić and Neno Stokanović from Brčko and the godfather of the church bell is Zdravko Đurein also from Brčko.

The construction of the Church of St. Great Martyr Prokopios began in 2006. The foundations of the church were inaugurated on July 21, 2007 by the then episcopal of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy.

The construction work on the church building was completed in 2010. And on May 30, 2010, after four years of construction, the church was inaugurated by the Episcope Vasilije (Kačavenda) with the help of Archpriest Cviko Mojić, Priest Žiko Mićanović and Archdeacons Žarko Mijatović and Slavoljub Milošević.

The single - nave cross-domed church was built in the Serbian-Byzantine style , with an altar - apse in the east and a steeple with a church bell and an entrance portal in the west. The church was built from small bricks and the roof was covered with copper . The church has the dimensions 15 × 7 m.

The basic shape of the church is a Greek cross . A round dome rises above the middle of the nave at the intersection of the side arms.

The entrance to the church is on the west side and there is a second entrance on the south side of the church.

The church is not currently painted with Byzantine frescoes. The iconostasis of oak was Tomislav Živanović from the Serbian city of Kragujevac carved. The icons were also painted by Zoran Milenković from Kragujevac.

Priest of the church

From the start of construction until 2008, Žiko Mićanović was the priest of the branch church of St. Great Martyr Prokopios. Siniša Pajkanović has been the acting priest of the branch church since 2008.
