The Church of St. Mary Magdalene. ( Serbian : Црква Свете Марије Магдалине, Crkva Svete Marije Magda Line ) in the Opština (municipality) Bijeljina belonging village Triješnica is a Serbian Orthodox branch church in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The church , built from 2009 to 2018, is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, who is the same apostle . It is the branch church of the parish Dazdarevo-Triješnica in the deanery Bijeljina of the eparchy Zvornik - Tuzla of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is located in the center of Triješnica, which has around 570 inhabitants. Triješnica is located in Semberija , about 7.5 km northeast of the municipality capital Bijeljina, not far from the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the neighboring country of Serbia to the east. The Bistrik River flows through the village .

The municipality of Bijeljina is located in the Republika Srpska , one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the RS has a predominantly Serbian population.

The village has its own Serbian Orthodox village cemetery. The inhabitants of the hamlet of Gojsovac belonging to the village of Batković are also buried in the village cemetery in Triješnica . The Slava of the village is the second day of Pentecost .

The parish church of the Assembly of all Serbian Saints in the neighboring village of Dazdarevo also belongs to the parish and is dedicated to the Assembly of all Serbian Saints.

History and architecture

The parish Dazdarevo-Triješnica was founded in 2007, the parish registers have been kept since 2005, before they belonged to the parish of Dvorovi. The parish of Dazdarevo-Triješnica includes the villages Dazdarevo, Triješnica, Kriva Bara and a small part of the village Dvorovi.

The construction of the single - nave cross-domed church began in 2009 and on July 24, 2010 the foundations of the church were consecrated by the then bishop of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy .

The church was built according to the design of the Brčko architect Goran Pejić . The church of St. Venerable Sisoje Veliki in the village of Lugovi in the Opština Šamac was built according to the same design . The construction work was carried out by the Globus-Dvorovi company owned by Milenko Zupur .

The single-nave church was built in the Serbian-Byzantine style , with an altar - apse in the east and a steeple with a church bell in the west. The church was built from small bricks with the dimensions 17 × 8 m.

The basic shape of the church is a Greek cross . A round dome rises above the middle of the nave at the intersection of the side arms. The church was built through donations from the villagers and other donors.

On August 4th, 2018, the feast day ( Slava ) of St. Mary Magdalene, the church was opened by Bishop Fotije (Sladojević) of the Zvornik-Tuzla eparchy with the help of numerous clergymen of the eparchy and with the presence of hundreds of local believers and the mayor of Bijeljina Mićo Mićić inaugurated.

The church has a wooden iconostasis with icons and the altar area is painted with Byzantine frescoes .

Parish priest

The current priest of the branch church is the incumbent priest of the parish Dazdarevo-Triješnica Jovan Ivanović .
