Kitaakita gun
Kita-Akita ( jap. 北秋田郡 Kita-Akita-gun ), North Akita, is a district since 1879 (- gun ) of the northern Japanese prefecture (ken) Akita . Since June 20, 2005, it has only consisted of a single community, the village (- mura ) Kami-Koani.
Kita-Akita was created in 1879 when the ancient Akita district of Ugo was divided into the north (Kita-) and south-Akita (Minami-Akita-gun) districts . When modern parishes were introduced in 1889, North Akita was divided into two towns (- machi ) and 29 villages. Since the middle of the 20th century, the majority of the district gradually merged into the independent cities (-shi) Ōdate (from 1951) and Kita-Akita (from 2005).
