Daisen ( Japanese 大仙 市 , -shi ) is a city in Akita Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .
geography
The city is east of Akita . The Ōu Mountains are east of the city. The Omono flows through the city.
history
The city was founded on March 22, 2005 as a merger of the city of Ōmagari ( 大曲 市 , -shi ) and the communities of Kamioka ( 神 岡 町 , -machi ), Nishisenboku ( 西 仙 北 町 , -machi ), Nakasen ( 中 仙 町 , - machi ), Kyōwa ( 協和 町 , -machi ), Senboku ( 仙 北 町 , -machi ), Ōta ( 太 田 町 , -machi ) and the village of Nangai ( 南 外 村 , -mura ), all of which were in Senboku County . Ōmagari, Kyōwa, Nangai and Ōta kept their old names as districts, but - with the exception of Ōta, whose pronunciation changed to Ōta-chō - without the suffix -machi .
After the merger, Daisen has the largest council assembly in Japan with 136 members . This also results from the fact that most of the council members of the formerly independent municipalities retained their mandate, only a few resigned.
