Klaus Döring

Klaus Döring (born April 5, 1938 in Hamburg ) is a German classical philologist and historian of philosophy .

Life

Döring studied from 1957 to 1964 classical philology, philosophy and musicology at the universities of Kiel , Würzburg , Hamburg and Freiburg . In 1964 he passed the first state examination in Greek and Latin. From 1966 he worked at the University of Freiburg, initially as an assistant manager. After his doctorate as Dr. phil. In 1970 he was appointed research assistant. 1976 habilitationhe studied Classical Philology in Freiburg. From 1978 to 1980 he completed his legal clerkship at the Oberschulamt Südbaden. In 1980 he was appointed to the Academic Council at the University of Freiburg.

In 1981 Döring moved to the University of Bamberg as professor of classical philology (focus on Greek studies ). In 2003 he retired .

Döring's main research area is ancient Greek philosophy and its modern reception. He dealt with various schools of philosophy and currents ( sophistics , Socrates , Socratics, Plato , Cynicism and Stoa ). Until 1999 he was editor of the series Antike Naturwissenschaft and their Reception (AKAN) together with Bernhard Herzhoff and Georg Wöhrle .
