Klaus Demmer

Klaus Demmer MSC (born May 27, 1931 in Münster ; † July 18, 2014 there ) was a Roman Catholic moral theologian .

Life

Demmer joined the Congregation of Missionarii Sacratissimi Cordis Jesu (Sacred Heart Missionaries) in 1957 and received the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1961 he received his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University with the thesis Ius caritatis: On the christological foundation of the Augustinian doctrine of natural law . In 1971 he completed his habilitation at the University of Innsbruck .

From 1962 he taught at the religious college in Oeventrop and from 1966 to 1970 he was a lecturer in moral theology at the theological faculty in Paderborn . From 1970 to 2003 he was professor of moral theology at the Gregoriana in Rome . He held various visiting professorships in the USA and was a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts . After his retirement, Klaus Demmer lived in his Westphalian hometown of Münster and was also superior of his order in Münster.

In 1987 he was honored with the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1999 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg .
