Klaus Scheurell

Klaus Scheurell (born August 22, 1941 in Wusterhausen / Dosse ; † August 12, 2016 ) was a German football referee .

Klaus Scheurell, son-in-law of the former FIFA referee Fritz Köpcke , was a referee of the GDR Oberliga between 1971 and 1991 . In his career he directed 223 league games. The GDR Cup final 1977 Dynamo Dresden against 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig (3: 2) was under his direction, as was the last cup final in the GDR in 1991 between FC Hansa Rostock and Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt , which Rostock won 1-0.

As a FIFA referee between 1975 and the end of 1990, he was used in 14 international A matches and 16 European Cup matches , and as a matchmaker during the 1980 Olympic football tournament in Moscow in two matches (preliminary round, Group B: Kuwait - Nigeria 3: 1, Quarter-finals : Yugoslavia - Algeria 3-0) and as assistant referee . The referee assignment in the same year at the European Championship qualifier between England and the Republic of Ireland at London's Wembley Stadium (2-0) is worth mentioning as an interesting match.

In 1990 he headed the only international match of the GDR women's national team against Czechoslovakia in Potsdam .

The trained brewer and maltster studied fermentation technology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He received his doctorate in 1978 as a Dr.-Ing.
