Klaus Thomsen (gynecologist)

Klaus Thomsen (born July 22, 1915 in Altona , † December 16, 1992 in Hamburg ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Life

Klaus Thomsen studied medicine at the universities of Jena , Innsbruck and Hamburg . In 1942 he passed his state examination. He then worked as a medical officer for three years during the Second World War . After a brief captivity, he started as an assistant doctor at the University Women's Clinic in Hamburg under Theodor Heynemann . Thomsen completed his habilitation in 1952 and was appointed adjunct professor in 1958 . In 1960 he was appointed to the chair for gynecology and obstetrics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He returned to the University of Hamburg in 1965 as the successor to Gerhard Schubert and full professor. Here he headed the university women's clinic until his retirement in 1984. Heinrich Maass was appointed his successor .

In 1968 Thomsen was chairman of the Northwest German Society for Gynecology , from 1974 to 1976 he was President of the German Society for Gynecology and organized its congress in Hamburg in 1976 . Both professional societies later made him an honorary member . From September 15 to 20, 1985, Klaus Thomsen led the FIGO's 11th World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics .

Klaus Thomsen died in Hamburg in 1992 at the age of 77.
