Klein Schöppenstedt is a village in the municipality of Cremlingen in the west of the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony . The place has about 700 inhabitants and was incorporated into the municipality of Cremlingen in 1974.

Location and geography

Klein Schöppenstedt is located on the former B 1 between Braunschweig and Helmstedt , about 6 km from the center of Braunschweig and 2 km west of Cremlingen , the capital of the municipality of the same name. In the south, the A 39 was opened to traffic in 2006 , the junction of which is "Sickte" in the municipality.

In the north, the place borders directly on the Buchhorst landscape protection area, which is already part of Braunschweig . From there, the terrain slopes slightly towards the federal motorway and rises again at the Herzogsberge landscape protection area to the south and adjacent parts of the landscape . The Reitlingsgraben flowing there forms the southern and western municipal boundaries. The Schöppenstedter Tower on the former B 1 forms the westernmost tip of the municipality.

In the northeast are the Weddeler Berg with a height of 112 m and the adjoining Schütz gravel pit, where a species-rich fauna of sediments from various geological ages was found.

Church life

The sports and culture club Klein Schöppenstedt (SKV Klein Schöppenstedt) was founded in 1947. In front of the village church there is a three-part memorial to commemorate those who fell in the First and Second World Wars .
