The name Hordorf is derived from the Old High German word hora for swamp. There used to be many ponds and wetlands in the Hordorf area.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Hordorf has existed since 1984. It is divided and shows three blue cattails above in gold . In the base of the shield there is a golden swivel plow in blue . As can be seen from the place name, Hordorf is located in a swampy environment (ahd. Hora , swamp), which is indicated by the cattails in the coat of arms. The swivel plow in the shield foot refers to the fact that Hordorf was a typical farming village.
