Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from June to September. The flowers are clustered in the leaf axils. The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry . The calyx lobes have a frizzy edge. The petals are whitish, weakly edged and with a length of 4 to 5 millimeters as long as the calyx.

The fruit stalks are curved downwards. The partial fruits are wrinkled and have sharp edges.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 42, 76.

ecology

The small-flowered mallow is a therophyte , hemicryptophyte and a half-rosette plant .

There is insect pollination and self-pollination instead. The seeds are long-lived and spread through humans, velcro spread and digestive spread .

Occurrence

The small-flowered mallow grows on dry to moderately dry and often patchy ruderal areas such as steps and roadsides, in vineyards and on corn fields. The small-flowered mallow is salt-tolerant. In Central Europe it is a character species of the Polygonion avicularis association, but also occurs in societies of the Sisymbrion association or rarely in those of the order Polygono-Chenopodietalia.

In Germany, the small-flowered mallow is an archaeophyte . It occurs scattered in northern Thuringia , southern Saxony-Anhalt , eastern Brandenburg , northern Lower Saxony , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and southern Schleswig-Holstein , rarely in western Bavaria and near Passau, in northern Baden-Württemberg , eastern Rhineland-Palatinate , Hesse , southern Thuringia , northern Saxony-Anhalt and western Brandenburg as well as rare and inconsistent in northern and western North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and southern Lower Saxony.
