The Kleine Aue , which flows into the Rahden town of Preußisch Ströhen , is the upper of the two tributaries of this name, the Große Aue . The not quite 19 km long body of water flows in the municipal areas of the cities of Espelkamp and Rahden in the East Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The small river rises south of the Espelkamp locality of Frotheim and one kilometer north of the Mittelland Canal at 52  m above sea level. NHN . The source lies between implied hills of a flat ridge that separates the boggy lowlands of the Great Aue from that of the Bastau , which drains the Wiehen foreland towards Minden .

The Kleine Aue flows first in a north-westerly direction, then predominantly in a northerly direction. In Espelkamp it forms the eastern boundary of the urban settlement area. In Rahden it flows just under a kilometer east of the train station . Eleven kilometers after the source, it receives its largest inflow from the right, the 7.29 km long Braune Aue .

After 18.97 km of flow path, the Kleine Aue flows into the Große Aue on the eastern edge of the center of Preussisch Ströhen, almost 50 km before it flows into the Weser and not far above the mouth of the Große Dieck River .
