The Rahden station was opened on October 1, 1899 and at that time was the end point of the Bünde railway line. Exactly one year later, another section of the line was put into operation, first to Sulingen and then another year later to Bassum. The inauguration of the railway line via Uchte to Nienburg followed on January 15, 1910.

Passenger traffic to Nienburg was stopped on September 29, 1968, and the section between Uchte and Nienburg was closed at the end of 1996.

Passenger traffic to Bassum ceased on May 27, 1994. On September 1, 1995, goods traffic was discontinued on the section between Rahden and Barenburg before it was shut down at the end of 1997.

Rahden was part of the Hanover Federal Railway Directorate until 1994 .

location

The Rahden train station is located on the eastern edge of the center of the city. It is located on the formerly continuous Bassum – Herford railway line , also known as the “Ravensberger Bahn”. Today this leads from Rahden via Bünde to Herford on the Hamm – Minden railway line .

In the past, the line ran via Rahden via Sulingen to Bassum on the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg line , where there was a connection and, in some cases, a connection to Bremen . A planned reactivation of this shortest connection between Ostwestfalen-Lippe and Bremen did not materialize. Since Easter 2009, Auenland-Draisinen GmbH has been offering (Han) draisine rides on the disused section from Rahden to Ströhen .

The Rahden – Uchte museum railway runs on the former railway line to Uchte and runs as planned in the summer months.
