history

Postcard from 1915

Since the 15th century, at the confluence of the Schierenbeke with the Große Aue, which was also called Mühlenbach, the Schierenbeker Mühle, which was part of the Royal Prussian Mills as a compulsory mill . With a contract dated September 17, 1765, the miller Blome took over the mill on a long lease. A first site plan came from Johann Christian Schlöman from the War and Domain Chamber in Minden in 1798. In 1827 Müller Schnittger received a concession as a tenant and in 1842 was able to replace the lease. After severe flood damage in 1885, the mill had to be rebuilt and was henceforth called Neue Mühle. At around the same time, houses and an inn were built, and the church registers named Neue Mühle as a district of Rödinghausen. According to a postcard from 1915, the operator of the mill and inn was an H. Nobbe, who also lived there and owned a cigar factory.

As part of the new construction of the railway line from Bünde via Lübbecke to Bassum , which opened on October 1, 1899, the Royal Railway Directorate in Neue Mühle built a bridge to cross the Wittekindsweg over the new railway line and directly next to it, at route kilometers 10.3 right in front of the inn Bus stop.

By 1938 the Neue Mühle stop was manned by an agent and also offered limited express freight traffic . Presumably this was Ernst Kuhlmann, the owner of the restaurant at the time. During the Second World War , the railway line gained strategic importance and was expanded. In 1949 the mill was renovated and a new turbine installed to generate electricity from hydropower.

In 1986 the stopping point was closed for passenger traffic by the Deutsche Bundesbahn . After the Eurobahn took over local rail passenger transport in 2002, the stop was reactivated. In 2004 the restaurant closed. The last known owner was Joh, Moor.

Industry

In addition to the mill, there was also a cigar factory in Neue Mühle and not far (1.5 km) on the Wittekindsweg of the Amtssteinburch on Donoer Berg, where Cornbrash sandstone was mined for several years to extract road gravel. Currently there is only one wood chip plant in Neue Mühle and the hydroelectric power plant of the former mill, the building of which is used by an outpatient care service .

Neue Mühle railway bridge

Neue Mühle railway bridge

The railway bridge, built in 1899 from large brick sandstone blocks, spans the cut of the railroad tracks in a wide arc. The bridge has wrought iron railings and two ornate keystones . These show the Ravensberg coat of arms with the three rafters on the southern side and the coat of arms of the Duchy of Minden with the two crossed keys on the northern side. The bridge is still in its original state of construction, including the path that still consists of tamped earth and stone, and is a listed building .

Mesch Neue Mühle stop

The breakpoint in Neue Mühle is due to its close proximity to the Prussia. Oldendorfer district Mesch so far officially the name Mesch Neue Mühle (HNMU), but is only shown on the station sign as Neue Mühle . The Westphalian tariff also assigns it to the Schwenningdorf district. It is served every hour by the Ravensberger regional train ERB 71 on the Rahden – Herford (KBS 386) line. A few buses run to Bünde and Ennigloh .
