history

The large and the small Vätersee are for the first time in the inheritance register of the Zehdenick office from 1590 as Ein See die große feder ... Einn See die Lütcke feder . In 1622 the name of the big feather was ... The little feather . In a map from 1747/50 you can find the designation Der Grosse Väter, der Kl. Fäter. Friedrich Wilhelm Carl von Schmettau 's cabinet map of Prussian provinces east of the Weser and adjacent areas from 1767/87 describes the two lakes as Grosvaeter See and Kl. Vaeter See . In the Prussian Urmesstischblatt sheet 2947 Ringenwalde 1826 the two lakes appear with the names Grosvaeter lake and Kl: fathers Lake . The name fathers is of Slavic origin, but cannot be clearly explained. It is probably derived from an old Polish basic form Vedr- zu vedr- = bright , which was originally only related to the weather. A derivation from the Old Polish basic form Vědro to vědro = bucket is also conceivable. A metaphorical name after the round shape of the lake is rather unlikely.

The lake belonged to the Zehdenick monastery and came to the Zehdenick office in 1541 with the secularization of the monastery . The Klein Väter residential area was not built until after the Second World War .
