Zalakaros small area

The small area Zalakaros ( Hungarian Zalakarosi kistérség ) existed from 2007 to the end of 2012 as a Hungarian administrative unit ( LAU 1) within the Zala county in western Transdanubia . As part of the administrative reform, all 19 localities were incorporated into the Nagykanizsa district ( Nagykanizsai járás in Hungarian ) at the beginning of 2013 .

At the end of 2012 there were 12,628 inhabitants in an area of ​​311.86 km². The population density of the small area with the second lowest population figure was 40.5 inhabitants / km², well below the county average (74 inhabitants / km²).

The administrative seat was in the only city Zalakaros (1,849 Ew.). The most populous place with 2,982 inhabitants was the municipality Zalakomár (now a large municipality, Hungarian nagyközség ). The other 18 localities had an average population of 599 (on 16.37 km²).
