Klemens Schnorr

Klemens Schnorr (born May 22, 1949 in Amorbach im Odenwald ) is a German organist and musicologist .

Life

After graduating from the Johannes-Butzbach-Gymnasium Miltenberg, Schnorr studied organ and church music at the University of Music and Theater Munich (organ masterclass with Franz Lehrndorfer ) as well as musicology, Latin philology of the Middle Ages and Italian philology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (MA with Rudolf Bockholdt).

Initially a church musician at St. Karl Borromäus in Munich- Fürstenried , he was subsequently a lecturer at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg and at the Munich University of Music, lecturer at the University of Munich and organ expert at the church music office of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

In 1991 he was appointed full professor at the Freiburg University of Music . In 1998, as the successor to Ludwig Doerr, he also took over the office of cathedral organist at Freiburg Cathedral , which he held until 2012. In 2002/03 he was the founding rector of the University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education in Regensburg . In 2014 he retired from the Musikhochschule Freiburg, since then Schnorr has been performing various activities as an auxiliary and concert organist, as an honorary organ reviewer for the DFG (German Research Foundation) and as a member of the Passau Cathedral Organ Commission .
