Jörg Josef Schwab

Jörg Josef Schwab (* 1976 in Illertissen ) is a German organist and church musician . In 2013 Schwab was appointed to the Münster organist in Freiburg im Breisgau .

education

Jörg Josef Schwab received organ lessons from Winfried Bönig and studied school and church music at the University of Freiburg . He then obtained the  A-exam in church music and the concert exam in organ improvisation as part of a postgraduate course at the Mainz University of Music . At the Berlin University of the Arts he deepened his knowledge of organ improvisation. Schwab completed his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with a bachelor's and master's degree. His teachers included Klemens Schnorr , Gerhard Gnann, Jacques van Oortmerssen , Alfred Müller-Kranich , Hans-Jürgen Kaiser and Wolfgang Seifen .

Professional background

From 2006 to Schwab was two years as Regional Kantor in the diocese of Trier with his office in Oberwesel worked, and he taught the subjects "Schulpraktisches piano" and "organ improvisation" as a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Mainz .

In 2008 Schwab took over the office of cathedral organist at Essen Minster . In the summer of 2013 he last performed the summer organ concerts in this role , including a. with his improvisations In memoriam Franz Lehrndorfer . On October 1st, 2013 he was appointed organist in Freiburg im Breisgau. Since 2014 Schwab has also been a lecturer for organ improvisation and liturgical organ playing at the Freiburg University of Music .

Awards

In 2001 Schwab won the 3rd prize at the organ improvisation competition Festival European Church Music in Schwäbisch Gmünd and in the same year received the sponsorship prize at the Fugato organ festival in Bad Homburg . In 2005 he won the 2nd prize at the competition organ playing in church services in Fulda , sponsored by the Cäcilien Association and hosted by the KdL .
