The Klingenbach is a brook in the Limpurger Mountains in the municipality of Bühlerzell in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the upper Bühler from the left after a 6.6 km long southeast, then eastern, and finally northeast in the hamlet of Heilberg of the municipality .

Much further down, in the Wolpertshausen village of Cröffelbach , another Klingenbach joins the lower Bühler from the right.

geography

Source and history

The Klingenbach rises about 3.0 km west of Bühlerzell -Geifertshofen at about 487  m above sea level. NHN in the large forest area on the plateau of the Limpurger Mountains , between the Gewannen Hasenbühl in the south and Göbelsrain in the north. About 200 m further west in the valley, which continues somewhat uphill, there is a small, constant hollow at a bend in a wood removal path.

For almost the first half of its course, the stream flows with fluctuations to the southeast, after a good kilometer it reaches the approximately 6.4 hectare clearing island around the Teuerzer Sägmühle, where it feeds the associated mill pond . About 1.8 km below the source, the Heiligenbach emerging in the south of the Hasenbühl flows from the right ; The Heiligenbrunnen stands in the corner of the mouth , a watering place that rains heavily in every season and is frequented by numerous canister fillers who come from a great distance.

Shortly afterwards, coming from the Kohlenstraße in the west, a driveway crosses the valley, which leads east to the Bühlerzell-Geifertshofener Höhenweilern Wurzelhof and Trögelsberg. A few steps below the path leading out of the valley, the Klingenbach flows into the Schärtlensweiher , where the Schärtlensmühle used to stand, of which nothing can be seen. Another forest water flows from the right into the old mill pond, the stream through the Schärtlensklinge , which approaches the coal road from the west.

Then the Klingenbach begins to turn slowly to the left, about 3.2 km below its origin it reaches the field boundary, here the brook flows from the right through the Falchenklinge , which begins its course on the Kohlenstraße. From now on, the Klingenbach flows almost its entire remaining course in an easterly direction, initially between the forested slopes on both sides of the lonely riding house, a little later the tree line climbs up the slope to the left and passes behind the hamlet of Säghalden, which is located on the upper edge of the slope, to then further down the valley to bend to the north and leave the left Schollenberg foothills free. Opposite the Säghalden, another tributary flows from the right, the Kohlhaldebach flowing down from Immersberg . A little afterwards, on the middle right slope in a briefly open corridor, stands the well house and above it, on the ridge line of the right mountain foothill between the Klingenbach and Hambach valleys behind it, the hamlet of Gantenwald. Then opposite the Schollenberg in the north, on the slope of which Klingenhalde shows a conspicuous embankment staircase, on the right bank of the hillside forest Gantenwald .

After about 6.0 km from its source, the brook crosses under the K 2632 Gantenwald – Heilberg, then joins its largest tributary Hambach and then flows for the remaining half a kilometer of its course in the direction of the road and the inflowing Hambach to the northeast to Heilberg, where he is on the left side of the local road bridge over the Bühler after 6.6 km running at about 390  m above sea level. NHN flows into this from the left.

A little earlier, the Tief Graben branches off to the left into the Bühler floodplain, which only flows into it after about 0.8 km of parallel running to the river after merging with the Gunzenbach coming from the west .

Catchment area

The Klingenbach has a catchment area of 13.1 km², to which its large tributary Hambach contributes almost half. From a natural point of view, it is located in the lower areas of the Limpurger Mountains and also - with the partial catchment area of the Hambach - Sulzbacher Wald in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . The highest point is on the summit of 564.7  m above sea level. NHN high Altenberg at the southeastern tip of the catchment area, where an up to 600  m above sea level. NHN towering observation tower allows a panoramic view over the catchment area and far beyond,

In the northwest in the source area at the Hasenbühl it borders briefly on that of the Fischach tributary Weiler Bach , in the northeast on that of the Geifertshofener Schleifseebach and the Gunzenbach , both of which run below the Klingenbach to the Bühler . On its section above up to Heilberg, this competitor takes on some very short tributaries from the Trögelsberg area. From the hamlet of Heilberg, the watershed pulls up the mountain of the same name in a southerly direction, which is located in the sharp confluence of Klingenbach and Bühler, all the way to Stockhäusel; up to this point there are no significant tributaries to the Bühler beyond the sheath. From the Stockhäusel it then moves south to south-west upwards to the northern summit of the Altenberg, beyond that the Gerabronner Bach, which flows further upstream into the Bühler, competes . On this highest mountain of the Limpurger Mountains, the watershed bends to the west and soon follows the route of the coal road, on the other side first the Nägelesbach , then its tributary Heiligenbach and the Mühlenbach in the Sulzbach-Laufen area to the Kocher flow . From the exit of the road from the Kohlwalder clearing island, it continues to move steadily to the north-west up to the Hasenbühl , beyond this high road the Irsbach drains in the south-west over the Eisbach to the Kocher.

Municipalities and localities

Territory shares

The Klingenbach flows entirely in the area of the municipality of Bühlerzell , most of its course down to the Gantenwald forest on its eastern lower reaches in the Geifertshofen submarket, the rest in the Bühlerzell submarket.

Above the source of the Klingenbach, a small gusset of less than 8 hectares in its catchment area belongs to the Mittelfischach subdivision of the Obersontheim community . A little to the south of this, the catchment area protrudes little beyond the border between Bühlerzell and Sulzbach-Laufen , drawn along the coal road , to the west; this snippet belongs to the Sulzbach submarket as well as the upper right Falchenklinge and, above all, a wide area in the south. It is mainly to the right of the Platzklinge on its section down to the Hambacher Mühle, in which a left branch from this and then the Hambach flows. In total, almost 4 km² of the entire catchment area belong to the Sulzbach district.

Settlement sites

The Teuerzer Sägmühle and the riding house in the Klingenbachtal are located on the Geifertshofen submarket of Bühlerzell; the hamlet of Säghalden and the Brunnenhaus on and on its slope; the hamlet of Immersberg and the western part of the hamlet of Gantenwald on the ridge between the lower Klingenbach and Hambach valleys; the Hambacher Mühle in the Hambachtal.

The eastern part of the hamlet of Gantenwald, the single house Hölzle in the lower Hambachtal, the Stockhäusle to the east over the right slope of the Rotklinge converging there , near the K 2631 Heilberg-Wegstetten, and the hamlet Heilberg at the confluence with the Bühler are located on the Bühlerzell submarket , the most important settlement area with around 130 inhabitants, partly in the catchment area.

Most of the houses on the Kohlwalder clearing island, which are scattered in groups, are located on the Sulzbach submarket of Sulzbach-Laufen , namely a snippet each from Weißenhaus and Stöckenhof; all of Vogelhöfle, Jörgenhaus, Hohl, Wannenhaus, Schaufelhaus, Gottle (n) shaus, Hof and an apparently unnamed group of houses in the south of the clearing island. The northern part of Hohenberg itself and the Uhlbach farmhouse also belong to the Sulzbach submarket in the Hohenberger clearing island.

Overall, the settlement density is very low, even in comparison to the other parts of the municipality of Bühlerzell and Sulzbach-Laufen, which are poorly populated for the conditions of the largely rural district with 43 and 57 inhabitants / km², because large, completely unpopulated forest areas are the catchment area cover, especially in its northern part.

geology

The Klingenbach is a brook of the Mittelkeuper . It arises on the border of the Upper Bunter Mergeln ( Mainhardt Formation ) to the sandstone lying below ( Hassberge Formation ) and has already reached the Lower Bunter Mergeln ( Steigerwald Formation ) before the Teuerzer Sägmühle Layer height of the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ) and from a little before the confluence with the Hambach to the mouth strikes on the lower valley flanks first of the Klingenbach, then the Bühlertal even Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ). The stream already runs in a strip of floodplain sediment after the Heiligenbach flows into it.

The most widespread layer in the catchment area, which covers most of the plateaus, is the silica sandstone. To the west of the Klingenbach origin lies at the top an island made of Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), which takes up most of the plateau in the sub-catchment area of the Hahnbach. This arises even in this layer. At the southeastern gusset of the catchment area in the ascent to Altenberg, marl ( Trossingen formation ) and a small mountain plateau from the Black Jurassic above it .

Nature and landscape

About half of the Klingenbach course is located in forest areas that also cover two thirds of the catchment area and where the mixed forest dominates. There is a closed forest area around the first half of the Klingenbachlauf. In the open corridors of the valley locations, there is almost only grassland, arable farming is almost entirely limited to the areas above the upper slope edge: near Säghalden, around Gantenwald and Immersberg, especially in the catchment area of the Hambach near the Kohlenstraße, i.e. in the Kohlwälder and Hohenberger Clearing island. In these areas, too, it does not take up the entire area.

The Klingenbach begins its course in an inconspicuous, only slowly deepening hollow. On the accompanying flat heights, the forests in some places, for example in Grünen Hölzle north of the Teuerzer Flurinsel, are criss-crossed by ditches that have no slope; From the root plates and holes of felled trees you can see that yellow, crumbly sandstones will soon be standing beneath a black humus layer of varying thickness. Below the Teuerzer Mühle, from where a forest path follows the Klingenbach to the foot of the Säghalden, small-scale meanders with small sandbanks in the course and backwaters characterize its wooded floodplain. The side slopes, which are not very steep at the beginning, are still quite humid here, even after the inlet of the Falchenklinge , on the already steep right slope, there are non-drying areas of wetness throughout the year, on which bear moss sprouts crawl over dark green moss pads . On the willow slope below the Säghalden, extensive herbaceous horizons can be seen.

The whole lower course in the corridor with its free side slopes down to Heilberg is a landscape protection area. The valley areas from below the Teuerzer Sägmühle to the inlet of the Hambach are FFH areas.

Hiking trails

A hiking trail from Geifertshofen in the east leads to the Teuerzer Sägmühle in the Klingenbachtal and there, after crossing the Weiherdamm dam, reaches a hiking trail triangle. A forested route leads further west through the Hasenbühl , over the Kohlenstraße , the Brünststraße and the middle Eisbach valley to Gaildorf . Another path follows the Klingenbachtal itself down the valley to the southeast and then east to below the Säghalde, where it joins a hiking trail from Altenberg in the south and, after climbing the Schollenberg via the Denzelhalde Geifertshofen or via Trögelsberg and the Gunzenbach valley, reaches Bühlerzell.
