Kobe Seikōsho KK ( Japanese 株式会社 神 戸 製鋼 所 , English Kobe Steel Ltd. ) is a Japanese group with headquarters in Kobe . The company mainly produces steel and machines that are marketed worldwide under the Kobelco brand.

history

Kobe Steel was founded in 1905 and is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in the Nikkei 225 stock index. With over 200 subsidiaries and around 60 partner companies, the company is currently one of the three largest players in the Japanese mining industry. In 2002 there was a joint venture with the construction and agricultural machinery holding company CNH Global . This was not extended after the contract period expired and Kobelco is now delivering its own machine to Europe. Within the European Union , these are sold by the subsidiary Kobelco Construction Machinery Europe BV based in Almere . In the German-speaking region, Kobe Steel has also been represented in the steel production sector by its subsidiary Shinsho Europe GmbH , based in Düsseldorf , since 2009 .

Product data falsification 2017

In October 2017, it became known that the group had sold metal products with falsified product data. CEO Hiroya Kawasaki admitted that years of false information about the strength and durability of aluminum, copper and steel products had been made. Kobe Steel does about two thirds of its business with companies in Japan, e. B. the car manufacturer Toyota and the energy company Tepco . A total of more than 500 customers at home and abroad are supplied.
