As of November 2018, the genus Kobuvirus comprises six species of non-enveloped viruses from the Picornaviridae family . The generic name comes from the Japanese word kobu ("knuckle") to describe the characteristic surface structures of these viruses.

properties

The species of the genus Kobuvirus differ from other members of the Picornaviridae by a very long poly-A tail of 270 nt and a very high proportion of the nucleotides guanine and cytosine (G / C proportion) of 59%. All species have a hairpin structure at the 5 'end of their RNA genome , which is important for viral replication and packaging of the genome. Very typical of cobu viruses is their conspicuous structure when viewed under the electron microscope . In contrast to other picornaviruses, the icosahedral symmetry of the capsid can also be clearly seen in the external shape. The cobu viruses have a diameter of 27 to 30 nm.

The Aichi virus A (formerly Aichi virus ) in humans is having a viral gastroenteritis after eating crustaceans associated.
