Konrad Hitschler

Ernst Konrad Hitschler (born December 21, 1896 in Zweibrücken , † February 20, 1945 in Budapest ) was a German lieutenant general of the police and SS group leader in World War II .

Life

Hitschler, the son of an engineer, finished his school career in August 1914 at a humanistic grammar school . Three weeks after the beginning of World War I , he volunteered in the Bavarian Army . He was used with the 23rd and 22nd Infantry Regiments on the Western Front. Most recently he served as a company commander after an officer training course .

After the end of the war he was adjutant at the Fürstenfeldbruck non-commissioned school for about a year and in the meantime belonged to the Epp Freikorps . After his discharge from the army, he joined the Bavarian State Police at the end of January 1920 , changed from there to the gendarmerie at the beginning of May 1925, and from November 1925 to the end of May 1933 worked as a manager for the commander of the gendarmerie in the government of the Palatinate .

After the handover of power to the National Socialists , he joined the NSDAP in early May 1933 ( membership number 3.268.486). At the beginning of June 1933 he got a job in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior in the field of gendarmerie, whose management he took over in November 1937.

With the beginning of the Second World War, he became the commander of the motorized military police department 682, which was involved in the attack on Poland . From August 1940 he worked in the main office of the Ordnungspolizei , initially as a group leader in the training department. In the meantime, he joined the Schutzstaffel (SS No. 405.896) on April 20, 1941 and was then listed as an SS leader in the staff of the SS Personnel Main Office. From October 1941 to November 1943 he was inspector of the gendarmerie of the general inspection of the gendarmerie and protective police of the communities and in personal union u. a. Commander of the police training regiment in Oranienburg (May to June 1943) and commander of the Simferopol police force (June to November 1943). From November 1943 to September 1944 he was in command of the Ordnungspolizei (BdO) Simferopol. From October 1944 until his death in February 1945 he was BdO for the Higher SS and Police Leader in Hungary Otto Winkelmann with his seat in Budapest. During the Battle of Budapest from December 24, 1944 until the victory of the Red Army in February 1945, he commanded the police combat group at IX. SS Mountain Corps . Shortly after the fighting ended, he died of illness in a Budapest hospital.
