Together with Brammer, Kreepen is one of the 17 localities in the Kirchlinteln municipality in the Verden district in Lower Saxony . Kreepen and Brammer have 187 inhabitants (as of May 2009).
geography
Kreepen forms a village community with the somewhat smaller neighboring town of Brammer. Both places, only about one kilometer apart, share the cemetery between them, which has existed since 1942.
The old oak trees still shape the townscape today. Generous courtyards with old cobblestones stand next to neat single-family houses.
The district road K18 leads from Kirchlinteln through the villages.
history
The probably first documentary mention of Kreepen is based on a property register of Bishop Nikolaus from the year 1320. Here are mentioned: 'Benige-Bostellde' (Bendingbostel), 'Berndeß-Heinße' (Heins) and 'Cregenhob' (probably Kreepen). Documents from the years from 1385 onwards are available for the neighboring village of Huckfelde . When Huckfelde was abandoned in the 15th century, the villages of 'Kreipen' and 'Brommer' divided the lands among themselves. While Brammer received its current name as early as 1540, the name Kreepen continued to change over the generations. It was not until 1900 that Kreepen got its second 'e'.
In 1912 the villages got electricity. It was not until the 1950s that the village street was provided with an asphalt surface. The small community also had its own school building until 1962. This is now a private house, but the old schoolyard is used by the youth as a 'football field'.
Until the municipal reform in 1972 and its incorporation into the municipality of Kirchlinteln, Kreepen and Brammer had a joint mayor . The last mayor was Heinrich Bunke (1897–1979) to whom the village community u. a. still owes the construction of a chapel in the cemetery.
Today the village Kreepen, like all other 17 villages in the municipality, a (n) volunteer (s) local Head .
On July 1, 1972, Kreepen was incorporated into the Kirchlinteln community.
politics
The mayor is Karin Wiedemann (CDU).
