history

The village of Holtum (Geest) was first mentioned in a document from Henry I in 935, together with some neighboring villages ( Holtebüttel , Völkersen , Nindorf, Walle , Ritzenbergen, Dauelsen ) . However, numerous archaeological finds indicate that the place was settled much earlier.

The place shared the fate of the Verden territory and came under Swedish rule for a few years after the Thirty Years' War . After a short Danish interlude, Holtum became part of Kurhannovers , the later Kingdom of Hanover , which in turn was annexed by Prussia in 1866. Here it belonged to the administrative district of Stade , which included the Elbe-Weser triangle . In 1928, the railway line from Rotenburg (Wümme) via Verden (Aller) to Minden was built through the district of Holtum , and a railway station, which is no longer used for passenger traffic, was set up there. After the Second World War, Holtum belonged to the state of Hanover , which was added to the state of Lower Saxony in 1946 .

After the war, many refugees and displaced persons settled in Holtum, so that the number of residents almost doubled. On July 1, 1972, Holtum (Geest) was incorporated into Kirchlinteln. Since 2000, a new housing estate with single-family houses has been built south of Holtum between the streets "Zum Grünen Moor", "Hinterm Buschhof" and "Föscheberg". At Holtum, striking wind turbines have also been installed to generate electricity.

The Verden-Nord motorway exit on federal motorway 27 is about 4 kilometers south of Holtum near Walle, so that there is good road connection to Bremen. Holtum is connected to the district town of Verden and Rotenburg (Wümme) by public buses as well as to the core town of Kirchlinteln for school trips. The place used to have a train station on the Verden – Rotenburg ( Weser-Aller-Bahn ) railway line , which is still used as a depot today . The next train stations are in Verden (Aller), Langwedel and Rotenburg (Wümme). In the near future, the continuous double-track expansion of the railway line running through Holtum is planned, which should lead to the removal of the existing level crossings.
