Trivia

The ancestors of the American actor and singer David Hasselhoff are said to come from Völkersen. According to Jürgen Udolph , name researcher at the University of Leipzig , its roots can be traced back to the 16th century there. Meta Hasselhoff, the artist's great-great-grandmother, moved with her family from Bremen to Baltimore in the United States in 1865 . This is evidenced by entries in a ship's passenger list. The family's farm in Völkersen was evidently located near a hazelnut bush - this is how the unusual name “Hasselhoff” can be explained.
