Krept & Konan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Krept & Konan are a British hip-hop - Duo from Croydon in south London.

Band history

Casyo Johnson and Karl Wilson merged in 2009 under the name Krept & Konan . First they published songs on the Internet and several self-published mix tapes. The second tape Tsunami made them known in the scene, with the video Otis , a cover version of the hit by Jay-Z and Kanye West , they achieved six-digit views on YouTube . When Wilson's stepfather was killed in an armed robbery on his house and his mother was injured, they wrote the play My Story , which has been watched nearly five million times.

Skepta then helped them to their first appearance in his opening act and Wretch 32 and Professor Green also supported them. When the third mixtape Young Kingz was released in 2013 , it made it into the top 20 of the UK album charts . In the same year they received the award for Newcomer of the Year at the MOBO Awards . Only then did they sign a label deal with Def Jam and start working on their first real album. The single Freak of the Week was released in advance with the support of US singer Jeremih and brought them a top 10 hit. Then came the album The Long Way Home , which debuted at number 2 on the charts. In addition to Jeremih, Ed Sheeran , Emeli Sandé and Wiz Khalifa were among the guests. They received the MOBO Award for Album of the Year and, as in 2014, were named the best hip-hop act.
