The Kreuzkapelle is a listed church building in Blankenheim , a municipality in the Euskirchen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The former pilgrimage chapel is now the house chapel of an old people's home. The rococo building made of plastered quarry stone was erected from 1773 to 1780 by Ludwig Reichsgraf von Manderscheid-Blankenheim-Gerolstein as an atonement chapel on the occasion of the death of his third wife. In 1781 it was consecrated to the title of the Holy Cross. The building on a curly cross-shaped plan stands on a hill. A serpentine path with seven footfalls leads up. The entrance front with volute gable is divided into red sandstone and crowned by a wrought iron bell cage. The altars from 1824 are in late rococo shapes. The interior is dominated by white stucco ornaments on a light yellow background. A mirror ceiling was put in, the original sandstone slab floor has been preserved.
