The Catholic St. Hubertus Chapel is a listed church building in Ahrdorf , a district of the municipality of Blankenheim in the Euskirchen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

Originally the chapel was dedicated to Saint Valentine . It was given to the St. Maximin Abbey in Trier in 970 . Count Heinrich issued the deed of donation in which it says: “I gave St. Confessor of Christ Maximin in Trier, the church in Üxheim with all its accessories, namely the chapels in Barweiler, Nohn and Ahrdorf, was given. "

The rectangular building is located in the middle of a cemetery on a hill. The building of the early period is a flat-roofed quarry stone building with a groin-vaulted choir . The chancel is separated to the east by a wall with a triumphal arch. The nave walls were fitted with slotted windows in the 11th and 12th centuries; they have been preserved above the baroque arched windows . The change of patronage took place in 1710 in connection with the redesign of the premises. During the renovation in 1958, the old spatial impression was restored, the new flat ceiling was drawn in at the original height and the old choir arch opening was exposed. At the same time an extension with a gallery was added to the west. The inscription in the frame of the west portal dates from this time: "Terribilis est locus iste" (this place is awe-inspiring).
