history
Ripsdorf is an old parish . First mentioned church and parish in a document from the year 1121. Here converts the Cologne Archbishop Frederick I of Schwarzenburg the Abbey Steinfeld in a Chorherrenstift order. Ripsdorf is listed here among the possessions of the abbey . Until the abbey was dissolved in 1802, Steinfeld owned rights to the church and also provided the pastor. Due to the reorganization of the ecclesiastical landscape during the French era , Ripsdorf came to the Trier diocese in 1802 , with which it remained until 1825. Since then, as before, the place was again part of the Archdiocese of Cologne . Since the re-establishment of the Aachen diocese in 1930, the Ripsdorf parish has belonged to this diocese.
Building history
Nothing more is known about the parish church mentioned in 1121, but it was probably located on the site of today's church. The current church was built in the 14th or 15th century in the late Gothic style. A visitation protocol from 1536 states that the church is in good condition. In 1667 the church was extensively renovated. The nave was given today's ribbed vault and the bell tower received its characteristic rhombic roof . During the Second World War , the church was spared major damage. In the years 1976 to 1979 the church was restored. Mechernich architect Werner Geyer was in charge of the renovation work .
