St. Philip and St. James is the Roman Catholic parish church of the Blankenheim district of Lommersdorf in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The house of God is the hll. Consecrated to Philip and James the Elder and entered under no. 103 in the list of architectural monuments in Blankenheim (Ahr) . The Freilingen branch with the St. Martin chapel belongs to the parish .

history

General

A church in Lommersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1226. The church is also listed in the Liber valoris from around 1308. Furthermore, the place was already an independent parish at that time . Presumably the Steinfeld Abbey owned rights to the church, as it provided the pastors in the Middle Ages. Until 1802 the place belonged to the Archdiocese of Cologne , then fell to the Diocese of Trier and came back to the Archdiocese of Cologne in 1825. The parish has belonged to the Aachen diocese since 1930 . In addition, the part of Ahrhütte on the left of the Ahr was part of the parish until 1803 . However, the parish was then changed to Dollendorf .

Church building

The church, mentioned in 1226, was a Romanesque building from the 12th century. This was the first stone church in Lommersdorf. The bell tower has been preserved to this day . The present nave and the choir were built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. The last yoke of the aisles were in the 18th and 19th centuries. Century grown. In 1950, a vestibule was built in front of the main portal in the west according to plans by the Aachen architect Willy Rommé. In 1978 the church was completely renovated.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a baroque side altar and a neo-Gothic high altar . The people's altar was on July 25, 1981 consecrated . The stained glass windows of the choir are works by Felix Kreusch, which he created around 1950.

St. Philippus und Jakobus is a three-aisled and four- bay stepped hall church of the Gothic style with a retracted, three-storey Romanesque bell tower with an eight-sided helmet and a three-sided closed choir. The building is spanned by a ribbed vault . A sacristy is attached to the choir in the north .
