General

In 1285, a pastor from Blankenheimerdorf was first mentioned in a document. So there was already a church. The church and the parish are listed for the first time in the Liber valoris from around 1308 . In 1508, however, the parish was dissolved and Blankenheimerdorf became a subsidiary of the Blankenheim parish. The parish was only rebuilt around 1540. In 1802 the parish came to the Diocese of Trier and in 1825 it fell back to the Archdiocese of Cologne . Between 1807 and 1835 the parish was dissolved again and the place was again under the Blankenheim parish as a branch. In 1835 the parish was finally re-established. Since 1930 the place belongs to the diocese of Aachen .

Church building

A church in Blankenheimerdorf already existed in the 13th century. With the exception of the bell tower, today's structure was built between 1684 and 1687 at the instigation of Count Salentin Ernst von Manderscheid-Blankenheim . The consecration took place on May 24, 1687. In 1852 the older bell tower was demolished and replaced by a new building. In 1853 the wooden ceiling was renewed and in 1899 a sacristy was added. In 1991 the interior of the church was completely renovated.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a neo-Romanesque high altar consecrated on August 9, 1908 , a communion bench from 1908, a former altarpiece from the 18th century, as well as various figures of saints from 1897, 1910 and 1911. The stations of the cross are prints from 1912. The people's altar and Ambo are works of tuff and were created in 1991. Until 1986 the church had a painting made between 1938 and 1946. The ceiling paintings were created by Ernst Jansen-Winkeln and the wall paintings were works by Father Egino Manall. The stained glass windows created partly Hans Hansen in 1948. The remaining windows survived the Second World War and are the work of the company Reuter & Reichert from the years 1904 to 1935. The organ is a work of organ building company Gebr. Müller from Reifferscheid and was 1912/13 built. 6 stops were taken from the previous organ from 1870. The instrument has a pneumatic action .
