geography

The place is located about nine kilometers northwest of the large district town of Bautzen and three kilometers south of the community center in the Upper Lusatian region . The black water coming from the south once flowed directly along the eastern edge of the village. In the course of the collectivization of agriculture, however, the river was straightened and now runs about 200 meters further to the east. The immediate vicinity of Krinitz is used intensively for agriculture and has no forest areas.

Krinitz is a fully developed and well-preserved round square village and consists of several courtyards that surround the village square, as well as the somewhat secluded Alte Mühle am Schwarzwasser. In terms of settlement structure, it still corresponds to the original form from the time of Slavic settlement. The neighboring towns are Uebigau in the north, Luga in the east, Saritsch in the south and Wetro in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1419 as Crebenitz . Other forms of name listed include a. Grinitz (1635), Crönitz (1721) and Crinitz (1768). The manor was always with the Uebigauer manor.

In the Seven Years' War in 1758 and again in 1760, first Prussian and then Austrian troops camped on the Schwarzwasserwiesen between Krinitz and Luga. In 1804 there was an extreme flood that flooded both places. In the early 19th century there was an angle school in Krinitz , but it was banned and closed in 1824.

Krinitz has always been a district of Uebigau and was incorporated together with it first in 1936 to Saritsch and finally in 1993 to Neschwitz.

population

Towards the end of the 19th century, Krinitz was still a Sorbian village in which hardly any Germans lived. The language change began here in the 20th century, with Sorbian being spoken by the majority until the middle of the century. Since then, the use of the language has greatly decreased.

The believing residents are predominantly of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination and parish to Neschwitz.
