The terrain rises to the west and north, the neighboring towns of Neu-Lauske and Storcha are around 40 m higher than Weidlitz, and the so-called Friedensberg (195 m) rises to the north . The east running black water makes a curve at the height of the place and then flows further in a northeasterly direction. The immediate vicinity of Weidlitz is used for agriculture, but is interspersed with small forests.

According to the settlement, Weidlitz is a round hamlet with an estate in the western part.

The neighboring towns are Pannewitz in the northeast, Dreikretscham in the south, Storcha in the southwest and Neu-Lauske in the west.

history

The Weidlitzer manor

The place was first mentioned as Witolitz in 1419, relatively late by regional standards . Until the middle of the 16th century, the manor still belonged to the Milkwitz manor . Since 1562 the local manor (at that time Weitteliz ) has been recorded as the manor . The place has been recorded under its current name since 1658.

Weidlitz had been part of the neighboring Pannewitz since the introduction of the rural communities in the 19th century, although this together with the estate had been part of the Weidlitzer estate since 1704, as Ernst Gotthardt Adolf von Warnsdorf on Zschochau had acquired and combined both estates. Probably the best-known owner of both goods in the meantime was the Saxon Prime Minister Heinrich von Brühl , who bought the goods in 1746, but only visited them once and sold them again in 1749. After that they were owned by the Friedrich Lingke family. During the Seven Years' War , Frederick the Great stopped at the head of his troops on July 6, 1760 on the way to Hoyerswerda in Weidlitz.

After the Napoleonic Wars, Gut Weidlitz was passed on to Lingke's grandson, Dr. Friedrich Wilhelm Hermann , about. His son Paul Hermann took over the estate in 1830 and had the castle rebuilt in its current form in 1842/43 after he had decided to settle in Weidlitz. The Upper Lusatia agricultural research institute was also located in the village until the 1860s before it was relocated to Pommritz near Hochkirch .

Historically, the Kobanmühle near Loga am Schwarzwasser, which owned the estate, also belongs to Weidlitz .

population

In 1834 Weidlitz had 61 inhabitants, including 38 Protestants and 23 Catholics. In the course of the 19th century the population rose to over 90. In the 20th century, but especially in the last 30 years, the population has steadily decreased, most recently to less than 30.

Arnošt Muka did not list Weidlitz separately in his statistics for the 1880s, but recorded 179 residents for Pannewitz and Weidlitz, including 146 Sorbs (82%) and 33 Germans. This means that the proportion of Germans in both places was significantly higher than in the surrounding area.

The Protestant Weidlitzer were parish in Göda until 1809 , since then they belong to the parish of Neschwitz.
