geography

The place is located about nine kilometers northwest of the large district town of Bautzen and four kilometers south of the community center in the Upper Lusatian region . Pannewitz is located on the northwestern slope of the Schwarzwasser valley. To the west, the terrain rises by about 50 meters in the direction of Neulauske and Guhra ; the river flowing south is about five meters lower than the place.

Pannewitz is a square village with two three-sided courtyards . The neighboring towns are Saritsch in the east, Loga in the southeast and Weidlitz in the southwest.

history

The place was first mentioned around 1400 as the place of residence of a Kunat von Bahinwicz . Other forms of name recorded are Banewicz (1469) and the railway network (1580), which is close to the Sorbian form . In the 16th century, the manor was still at the Sollschwitz manor , as its Vorwerk Pannewitz was recorded in 1654. In 1704 Pannewitz came to the Weidlitzer estate because Ernst Gotthardt Adolf von Warnsdorf on Zschochau acquired and combined both estates. Probably the best-known owner of both goods in the meantime was the Saxon Prime Minister Heinrich von Brühl , who bought the goods in 1746, but only visited them once and sold them again in 1749.

Until April 1, 1936, Pannewitz formed an independent rural community with the Weidlitz district; then it was incorporated first to Saritsch and in 1993 together with this to Neschwitz.

population

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 179 inhabitants in the 1880s; 146 of them were Sorbs (82%) and 33 were Germans. Pannewitz thus had a relatively large German minority in regional comparison, which can also be attributed to the manor. Since then, the use of the Sorbian language in the village has decreased significantly.

The faithful residents are predominantly of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination and have parish in Neschwitz since 1809. Until then, Pannewitz was part of the Göda parish .
