geography

Neudorf is located in Upper Lusatia about 14 kilometers northwest of the large district town of Bautzen in the Upper Lusatian region . Surrounding towns are Königswartha in the north, Holschdubrau in the east, Holscha in the south, Neschwitz in the west and Zescha in the northwest.

The federal highway 96 runs through Neudorf from Bautzen to Hoyerswerda .

history

Neudorf was first mentioned in a document in 1362 as Sydil von deme Nuwendorfe . In the following period the place name changed from Newendorff (1510) to Nawendorff prope Neschwitz (1518) to Neundorff in 1612. In 1768 the place was called Neudorf bey Neschwitz and in 1875 as Neudorf b. Neschwitz recorded. The place was under the manorial rule of the manor Neschwitz.

Until April 1, 1936, Neschwitz was an independent rural community, then the place was incorporated into Neschwitz . As part of the municipality of Neschwitz, Neudorf was from July 25, 1952 in the then newly formed district of Bautzen . After the fall of the Wall , Neudorf was assigned to the old district of Bautzen on August 1, 1994 ; since the district reform in Saxony on August 1, 2008 , the village has belonged to the Bautzen district .

Neudorf heard since the 16th century the church Neschwitz.

Population and language

For the year 1777 there were five possessed men , eight gardeners and eight cottagers in Neudorf . In 1834 the place had 234 inhabitants. By 1871 the population sank to 150 inhabitants and rose again to 173 by 1890. By 1910 the population fell slightly again to 167. In 1925 Neudorf had 198 inhabitants, 193 of whom were Evangelical Lutheran and five were Catholics .

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 175 inhabitants for the year 1884; 139 of them were Sorbs (79%) and 36 were Germans.
