At the same time, he moved into the field of vision of the Knattspyrnusamband Íslands and played in the course of the year under coach Luka Kostić in the qualification for the U-17 European Championship in 2007 , he was unable to participate in a tournament despite the first qualification of an Icelandic team for such a tournament. In 2007 he made his debut in the first division named after a sponsor Landsbankadeild . Although he initially only remained a supplementary player, he also went through the U-19 junior selection after the U-17 selection team . In the 2009 season he prevailed as a regular player, with the team around Arnar Grétarsson , Finnur Orri Margeirsson and Guðmundur Kristjánsson he also reached the final of the national cup .

After two goals from Alfreð Finnbogason against goals from Ingvar Þór Ólason and Samuel Lee Tillen , the end of extra time was a 2-2 draw against Fram Reykjavík and the club won their first national title on penalties . He had made his debut in the U-21 national team a few days earlier . The next season was even more successful: together with Finnbogason, who was crowned top scorer of the championship with 14 goals this season, he formed a dangerous strike duo and led the club to the club's first championship with twelve goals this season. While Finnbogason had left the club for mainland Europe and the club subsequently slipped into midfield of the championship, he took part in qualifying for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League . Against the Norwegian representative Rosenborg Trondheim progress was almost impossible after the 5-0 defeat in the first leg, but in the 2-0 return success he shone alongside Dylan Macallister as a goalscorer. In the league, too, he scored double digits until the end of the season, this time placing himself among the top five goalscorers in the league with eleven goals this season.

Kristinn moved in early 2012 together with his compatriot Guðjón Baldvinsson to the Swedish club Halmstads BK , who had been relegated to the second-rate Superettan . With seven goals he was involved in reaching the relegation games to return to the Allsvenskan . There he scored a goal in both games in the clashes with GIF Sundsvall , after a 3-0 first leg win and a 3-4 defeat, the club rose again to the top class. Initially there regulars he lost by a sending off his place in the starting lineup, he that of its 19 season appearances in the highest Swedish league only seven games from the start was on the field. In the 2014 season he was a regular again, with eight goals he contributed to staying up.

After his contract expired, Kristinn left the Swedish club at the end of 2014 and signed a contract with the US club Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer . A few weeks later, he made his debut for the Icelandic senior team in January 2015, when they defeated the Canadian national team with a 2-1 win in a friendly match . He scored his first international goal with the 1-0 opening goal. After a year of play in the top North American football league, the Icelander moved to GIF Sundsvall in Sweden for the 2016 game year after completing 21 championship games .
