organization

The customer of the cultural summer is the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market. The artistic director was the author and director Georg Büttel from the start , the overall organizational management was from 2003 to 2016 with Florian Zwipf-Zaharia, whose event agency cultus production gmbh filed for bankruptcy at the end of September 2016. The program of the cultural summer is the maintenance of cultural diversity. Every year the cultural summer opens up new locations in the Werdenfelser Land with sophisticated folk theater . In the acting section, only new productions or commissioned works specially designed for the festival are performed. In the fields of music, cabaret and fine arts, the cultural summer initiates and bundles offers from associated partners such as local cultural institutions, associations and artist groups. In five to six weeks of playing time, 50 to 60 individual events come together. The audience numbers range between 11,500 (2005) and 15,500 (2009) per season.

There are also special offers for children and young people. In addition to special theater performances with pedagogical support, competitions on artistic topics and youth theater projects are held in cooperation with youth organizations and schools in Bavaria and Tyrol.

Another important part of the cultural summer are events on the life and work of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen-born author Michael Ende .
