Customer cards from railway companies

Bulgaria

The Bulgarian railway company Balgarski Darschawni Schelesnizi has various discount cards - for example: B. the CLASSIC card, with which customers of all ages receive a 50% discount. It costs BGN 30 for one year (around EUR 15.30). People up to the age of 26 can get a YOUTH card for BGN 20 (approx. EUR 10.20), with which one receives the same discount. There are also customer cards for senior citizens, students, children up to 10 years and for large families, which only cost a symbolic price of 1 BGN and also offer a 50% discount.

Denmark

In Denmark, the Danske Statsbaner offer discounts of 50% for customers between 16 and 25 years of age through the Ung Kort . RailPlus and the associated 15% discount on cross-border traffic is included in the price. The Ung Kort costs 125 Danish kroner (approx. 17 euros) as an app for one year and 150 kroner as a plastic card.

Germany

A Bahncard 50

In Germany, Deutsche Bahn AG offers its BahnCard customer card, which can be purchased in three different discount levels (25%, 50% and 100% discount) and in two different car classes . On request, a BahnCard enables participation in the frequent traveler programs “ bahn.bonus comfort ” (additional services) and “ bahn.bonus ” (collecting bonus points). The BahnCard 100 is an annual network card for rail transport and public transport in various cities.

DB AG also offers the bahn.bonus card as a free bonus customer card for participating in bahn.bonus. This has no discount option.

In addition to transport companies, some transport associations and tariff associations, primarily in rural regions, offer customer cards, such as the Mobilcard from the Rhein Mosel transport association or the savings card from the Trier region transport association.

France

The SNCF offers several discount cards, some of which are aimed at special age groups.

The standard discount card is the “Carte week-end” for currently 49 euros per year. With it you generally get a 30% discount on the normal price. The discount is only granted for outward and return journeys with at least one night on site at the weekend.

The “Carte Avantage Jeune” is available for people up to and including the age of 27. It costs 49 euros for one year and generally offers a 30% discount.

The same applies to the “Carte Avantage Senior” for people aged 60 and over (generally 30% discount). It costs 49 euros a year.

For frequent travelers there is the "Carte Liberte" for 399 euros. This gives you 60 or 45% discount (2nd / 1st class) for a year.

Great Britain

In the National Rail system of Great Britain, not including Northern Ireland, there are various so-called Railcards , which are generally valid for one year.

  • 16-25 Railcard, £ 30 (approx. 33 euros), 1/3 discount
  • Family & Friends Railcard, £ 30, 1/3 discount for adults and 60% discount for children

Railcards can be ordered on the Internet or issued in any travel center. A passport photo is required for this. It is noteworthy that there is no Railcard for everyone that is valid in the entire network.

A Railcard for the age group 26–30 was announced by Treasury Secretary Philip Hammond in the 2017 autumn budget.

Italy

The Trenitalia offers classic customer cards only for specific target groups. The "Carta Verde" is aimed at young people up to the age of 26 and offers a discount of 10% for an annual fee of 40 euros. The "Carta D'Argento" is intended for seniors from 60 years of age and allows a discount of 15% for an annual fee of 30 euros (free of charge from 75 years). Both cards include RailPlus .

Due to the very low discount at relatively low fares anyway, both cards are only profitable for those who drive a lot and are therefore rarely purchased.

The “Cartaviaggio” frequent driver program, on the other hand, is available to all customers. It enables you to collect and redeem bonus points.

Netherlands

The Nederlandse Spoorwegen essentially offer five variants of the Voordeelurenabonnement, the discounts also apply to up to three fellow travelers:

  • The Dal Vordeel variant costs € 52 per year and grants a 40% discount Monday to Friday outside of peak times (6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) as well as all day on weekends and public holidays. People aged 60 and over receive seven free travel days for an additional € 25.50 per year.
  • The Dal Vrij Jaar variant costs € 105 per month as an annual ticket (for people aged 65 and over: € 44) and grants free travel Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. and all day on weekends and public holidays.
  • The Altijd Vrij variant costs € 346 per month and allows unlimited travel. The discount also applies to up to three fellow travelers.
  • The Altijd Vordeel variant costs € 28 per month or € 276 per year and grants one Monday to Friday outside of peak times (6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) and all day on weekends and public holidays 40% discount. A 20% discount is granted Monday to Friday at peak times. People aged 60 and over receive seven free travel days for an additional € 25.50 per year.
  • The Weekend Vrij Jaar variant costs € 34 per month as an annual ticket (€ 23 for people over 65) and grants free travel all day on weekends and public holidays. Monday to Friday outside of peak hours (6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) there is a 40% discount.

All variants are only valid for the second class, but they are also available for the first class at an additional cost. All cards are also valid for other train companies within the Netherlands (except for Thalys). All variants mentioned are subject to a minimum contract duration of 12 months. You can then cancel on a monthly basis. All forms of Voordeeluren subscription are available to everyone. There are other variants, but no special cards for young people, as schoolchildren, trainees and students can generally use all trains within the Netherlands for free anyway.

Norway

In Norway, Norges Statsbaner offer the so-called NSB kundekort , which grants a 20% discount for 750 Norwegian kroner (approx. 76 euros) for a year. Austria

The Österreichische Bundesbahn offers the VORTEILScard, which grants a 50% discount (only vending machines and internet / at cash registers, the discount is 45%) and is currently used by a total of 1.5 million customers, as well as the ÖSTERREICHcard network card . Poland

The PKP offers seniors annual tickets for discounted travel (from 60 years of age), namely the REGIOkarta SENIOR (59 PLN, approx. 14 euros, 25% discount) and the Karta seniora (150 PLN, approx. 36 euros, 50% discount) . The REGIOkarta SENIOR is valid on regional trains, the Karta Seniora on express trains (TLK, EIC, EC, Ex). The REGIOkarta, which gives you a 30% discount on regional trains, is available to all travelers. It costs 105 PLN (approx. 25 euros) for half a year and 175 PLN (approx. 42 euros) for one year.

Romania

The Romanian state railway Căile Ferate Române is offering a year-long 25% discount on the "Cardul TrenPlus" for 110 RON (approx. 23 euros). This discount only applies to tickets purchased online.

Switzerland

The Swiss Federal Railways offers its customers the Half-Fare travelcard with a 50% discount, as well as the general subscription (GA travelcard , network card). The half-fare card has around 2,300,000 customers and the GA has around 430,000 customers. In a relative comparison to Austria and Germany, this means a very high sales success. Slovakia

The junior card is available for people up to 26 years of age, the senior card from 60 years. The discount for Railplus has been reduced to 15% in Europe.

Slovenia

The Slovenian railway company Slovenske železnice has customer cards for young people and for seniors. People under 26 can purchase the "SŽ kartico ugodnosti - MLADI" for 10 euros. With this you receive a 30% discount for journeys within Slovenia for one year. People aged 60 and over can purchase the "SŽ kartico ugodnosti - SENIORJI" for 7 euros, which gives them a 30% discount on working days and 50% discount on weekends and public holidays within Slovenia.

Spain

Seniors (aged 60 and over) can purchase the Tarjeta Dorada for 6 euros from the Spanish railway company RENFE , which offers a 25% to 50% discount on the regular fare.

Czech Republic

The Czech Railways offer with In-Karta also a loyalty card.

The IN-25 version is available for over 25s for 990 Czech crowns (approx. 39.20 euros) and is valid for 3 years. The card can also be purchased with a validity of 3 months or one year. It grants holders a 25% discount on all tickets, including season tickets and special offers.

The IN-50 version grants a 50% discount on single tickets and 25% on season tickets and special offers. It is only valid for one and three years and costs 8,490 CZK (approx. 336 euros) for those over 25. For pensioners it costs 1,490 CZK (approx. 59 euros) and is valid for 3 years. However, it is only of interest to retirees under 65 years of age, as people over 65 years of age automatically receive a 75% discount.

The IN-100 is a network card for the 2nd class, which can be purchased with a validity of 1 or 3 years. The 3-year price is 58,990 CZK (approx. 2,337 euros). This covers the train categories Os, Sp, R, Ex, IC , EC and SC within the Czech Republic. The mandatory reservations in the SC are discounted with this card.

The IN-Business is a transferable network card for 1st and 2nd class. It is available with a three-month and one-year validity and the one-year version costs CZK 35,000 (approx. EUR 1,386).

All cards include RailPlus . This enables a 15% discount on non-Czech route sections in cross-border rail traffic in Europe.

Approx. 600,000 customers currently have one of these cards.

Hungary

The Hungarian railway company MAV offers the START Klub card as a half-price card. This offers a 50% discount on 2nd class travel. On Saturdays an additional person can travel at half price. The card is valid for one year and costs 34,900 HUF (approx. 105 euros), for persons up to 26 years of age 24,900 HUF (approx. 75 euros). The card includes RailPlus which is only 15% discount.
