The art collection Hans & Marlis Suter is an art collection founded by Hans and Marlis Suter, which was shown in temporary exhibitions in Oberhofen on Lake Thun from 2004 to 2011 and has been presented to the public in Steffisburg since 2012 . The collection includes works of Swiss art from 20th century classical modernism. One focus is painters from the Lake Thun region, the canton of Bern and the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The first work in the collection was acquired in 1964.

The Thun doctor Dr. med. Dr. In over 50 years, Hans Suter and his wife Marlis Suter have not only put together an important art collection, but have also written articles of art historical value, for example a book about Paul Klee's illness. Hans Suter was also President of the Steffisburg Art Commission, the Friends of the Art Museum Thun and the Association for the Promotion of Concerts in Thun for many years.

The extensive collection includes works by Cuno Amiet , René Auberjonois , Arnold Brügger , Etienne Clare , Marguerite Frey-Surbek , Paul Freiburghaus , Franz Gertsch , Wilhelm Gimmi, Alfred Glaus, Paul Gmünder, Nell Graber, Ueli Güdel, Regula Hadorn , Felix Hoffmann, Knud Jacobsen , Jakob Jenzer, Robert Indermaur, Marcel Kunz, Arthur Loosli, Eugène Martin, Jürg Maurer, Chantal Michel, Ernst Morgenthaler , Meret Oppenheim , Fritz Pauli , Gregor Rabinovitch , Markus Raetz , Ernst Ramseier , Henry Roulet, Niki de Saint Phalle , Robert Schär , Albert Schnyder , Ruth Schwob, Thomas Seilnacht, Fred Stauffer , Martha Stettler, Victor Surbek , Gottfried Tritten, Roman Tschabold , Karl Walser, Hugo Wetli , Bruno Wurster . Works by Helene Pflugshaupt and Bendicht Friedli are mainly represented. Monographs on both were published as part of the exhibitions. The collection also includes sculptures by Otto Charles Bänninger , Rolf Brem , Max Fueter , Karl Geiser , Hermann Hubacher , Robert Indermaur, Gottfried Keller , Marcel Perincioli , Paul Roth , Ernst Schneider and Walter Loosli .

Exhibitions

The exhibitions are financed by a sponsoring association and donations. The community of Steffisburg provides additional services. From 2004 to 2011 the historical "Wichterheergut" in Oberhofen on Lake Thun served as an exhibition space. Since 2012, the collection has been made accessible to the public in further temporary exhibitions in the also historic "Höchhus" in Steffisburg . Representative works by several artists from the collection are usually shown each year. At the vernissages and in public tours you can get information about their life and work.
