Kura (DJ)
KURA (civil: Rúben de Almeida; * August 21, 1987 ) is a Portuguese EDM -DJ and music producer from Lisbon . With over 40 productions on several well-known labels, in particular Spinnin 'and Revealed , he is an important representative in the field of electro and progressive house. In 2017 he was voted # 48 in the DJ-Mag Top 100.
Career
Starts as a regional DJ
At the age of 11, a compilation by techno DJ Carl Cox , which a classmate showed him, aroused his interest in electronic dance music. Club visits in the early 2000s, at the time shaped by the hits of Martin Solveig and Daft Punk , confirmed this. Kura played music in front of an audience for the first time on his school radio station. In 2005 he worked in a skater shop and practiced every day on the turntables there. A little later he organized parties at which he hung himself up. For the next 3 years he was resident DJ at a renowned club in Lisbon. As a result, Kura recognized a need for his own music and devoted himself increasingly to music production. His first bootleg of the Sydney Samson song "Work It" was immediately popular with DJ colleagues. His first own track, Russian Guitar , was released under Portugal's most famous label, Kaos Records. Regular remixes made him famous in Lisbon's club scene. He has been under contract with WDM Management since 2012.
International breakthrough & awards
His international breakthrough came in 2011 with the track Brazil , which was played by Roger Sanchez in his radio show and drew the attention of DJ stars like Hardwell and Nicky Romero to him. After two successful remixes to John Christian - Next Level under Protocol Recordings and Lil Jon & MAKJ - Lets Get Fucked Up under Ultra Music, Kura was able to reach the DJ-Mag Top 100 list for the first time in 2014. With 42nd place, he was the highest direct entry by a Portuguese-speaking DJ and fifth highest overall of the year. This was followed by his second release (after Ammonia 2011) under Revealed Recordings with the name Makhor .
The track Collide , published under Oxygen, a sub-label of Spinnin ', was used by Portugal 's largest festival MEO Sudoeste as the soundtrack for their media presence.
In 2013 and 2014 Kura won the award for the best Portuguese DJ of the Radio Nova Era Awards, given by Portugal's largest radio station. His own radio show, Ambush , was broadcast on broadcasters around the world.
In 2015 he officially signed with Spinnin 'Records and was able to repeatedly reach the DJ-Mag Top 100 (61st place).
Publications with u. a. Hardwell & international success
With Kura's remix to Hardwell - Young Again , which appeared on the album United We Are Remixed , a long collaboration with Hardwell and his label Revealed Recordings began: At the beginning of 2016, a collaboration between the two with the title Calavera followed , which was number 1 of Beatport - Charts reached. The track Walk Away with Tony Junior & Jimmy Clash was released on Tiësto's label Musical Freedom and reached millions of clicks on YouTube and Spotify. His collaboration with Laidback Luke Mad Man was able to build on the success. The solo track Tora once again made it to number 1 on the Beatport charts in the Big Room area .
In 2016 Kura played at festivals such as Tomorrowland and Ultra Europe and on seven other tours around the world. In this year's DJ-Mag vote, he reached number 51.
Collaboration with Revealed
Several publications under Revealed followed in 2017, including Loki , Bangalore and Calcutta . The second collaboration with Hardwell appeared on July 27th on Hardwell & Friends EP # 1 . It bears the name Police and can be assigned to the jungle terror.
Kura hosted 2 episodes of Revealed Radio (# 34 & # 96), mixed The Sound Of Revealed # 2 and is a permanent line-up part of Revealed Stages at international festivals such as the 7th Sunday Festival and Mysteryland .
As part of the Amsterdam Dance Event , he also held a masterclass at the Revealed Day Conference.
