Kurt Lettner (born September 7, 1937 in Bad Kreuzen ) is a retired Austrian pedagogue (main school director), local politician , local researcher and folklorist .

Life

From 1974 to 1996 he acted as Vice Mayor of the market town of Mauthausen .

From 1968 he was jointly and from 1969 jointly responsible for the Mauthausen church choir. In 1973 he founded the Mauthausen Singing Circle and headed it as choirmaster until 1996. The memorial concert 50 Years of the Liberation of Mauthausen Concentration Camp Mauthausen and Lettner's accompanying essay, which he published on recordings jointly by the Mauthausen Singing Circle and the Mauthausen parish youth choir under the direction of Alfred Hochedlinger , achieved supraregional reception .

In his spare time he worked as a local researcher , cultural journalist, especially for the daily newspaper Neues Volksblatt and for Radio Maria Austria , consultant in adult education, board member and exhibition curator in the local Heimathaus.

After his professional activity as a secondary school teacher, which he practiced for 40 years, he completed doctoral studies in art history (doctorate 2007) and ethnology (doctorate 2011) in the retirement pension .

In addition to his academic work, he published the results of his research as a local researcher in the journal Oberösterreichische Heimatblätter , wrote articles on several regional homeland books and is a speaker at the Catholic Educational Center on folk medicine and superstition and at the Academy of Folk Culture in Upper Austria on the subject of mariological representations active in folk art . In 2005 he was responsible for the scientific part of the permanent exhibition Folk Medicine and Superstition in the Großdöllnerhof open-air museum in the Rechberg Nature Park . Kurt Lettner works for the Austrian Commission for UNESCO as an expert for inclusion in the register of intangible cultural heritage in Austria .

Lettner has been widowed since 1991 and has a son and a daughter.

In 1985 he became a consultant for popular education and homeland care of the Upper Austrian provincial government, is the holder of the Silver Medal of Merit of the Province of Upper Austria and since 1988 the Mauthausen Ring of Honor.
