Kurt Tornier

Kurt Tornier (born January 16, 1899 in Fischau , West Prussia , † May 4, 1983 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) was a German bank manager.

Life

Tornier was born the son of the landowner Otto Tornier. He attended the humanistic high school in Marienburg . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the Albertus University in Königsberg . In 1917 - during the First World War - he became active in the Corps Baltia Königsberg . Even as a fox he was assigned to Field Artillery Regiment 79 in Osterode i. Ostpr. convened. Accepted as a flag junior , he came to the western front in the Arras area after basic training . There he initially took part in courses as a junior officer. On the Black Day of the German Army, shrapnel broke several fingers on the right hand. Tornier became a British prisoner of war, from which he was released on February 27, 1919. In Königsberg he continued his activity and studies. Since he was a professional soldier as an ensign , he had to wait for the result of further treatment. Even after a special treatment in Potsdam, three fingers were lost. As an inactive person he spent the summer semester of 1920 at the University of Jena . After an interim semester, he passed his first exam in June 1921. In 1921 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. After he had passed the assessor examination in 1924, he was called up as an "auxiliary worker" in the Reich Ministry of Economics . From 1927 to 1938 he was managing director of the specialist group of private mortgage banks in the Central Association of the German Banking and Banking Industry , based in Berlin. On January 1, 1939, he joined the Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank . He was a general agent for the bank in Berlin. On January 1, 1947, he became a deputy, and a full member of the Executive Board on January 1, 1952. In this role he was responsible for the mortgage department and did a great job of restarting the bank. On December 31, 1967, he retired.

Tornier was a member of the Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten . In 1933/34 he was the "corps leader" with Hans-Wolfram Knaak and Viktor von Schmiedeberg at the center of the bitter disputes over the Nazi appropriation of his corps. His opponent was Eugen Dorsch, advanced by Alfred Funk .

Tornier was married to Alevtine von der Schulenburg since April 19, 1935 (* February 22, 1907, † June 12, 1989). The couple remained childless.
